Postcards collection

This series of illustrations showcases the history, the people and the landmarks of Lesvos island. A couple of aristocrats from the late 19th century, a granny in her 90s with her donkey and the Mermaid Madonna next to the church in the village of Sykamia, are just a few of the many examples traditional folklore that Lesvos has to offer.

The concept is divided in two parts: the landscapes and culture. The first part focuses on the architecture and the scenery of some of the most well-known villages throughout the island. The second part emphasises on the locals, highlighting the history, the legends, the dialect and also scenes from their everyday life.

The handwritten style of the signs that can be found around the island inspired me to include custom made typography and a freehand character to the illustrations.
